Gaia’s Rest

Life is but an ethereal cycle rooted in raw reality- for we are born out of this earth, and our remains go back to the very soil that ushered in its beginning. The sleeping figure symbolizes the same. It’s poignant pose, a reminder of how we rest during life as well as after it- yet another thing that remains unchanged.

The vibrance of the red dress is an allusion to the vigor and growth of life, while the white birds hint at new beginnings.

Interestingly, this painting also draws attention to the fact that what appears to be the death of a being (the girl) is but nourishment of another (the tree). This piece brings forth the ephemeral nature of life, which complements the eternal cycle of birth-growth-death-renewal.
