Obol: A Price To Pay
She often avoided sitting alone with her thoughts,
They say an idle mind is a devil’s workshop.
And perhaps he was her devil in disguise
She felt him slipping into the Tartarus of her mind.
Stumbling through the shadows of her whispering convictions,
He quested for the forgotten dungeon of trust
Yet he was unaware of the abyss of self-destruction below
Spiraling into the chasm, he plunged into the cold River Acheron.
The biting air of loneliness clung to his skin
The familiar eyes of Charon pierced through his soul
He watched as the people she loved ferried across,
In hopes they could rest in her Asphodel fields.
Promises were sworn by the River Styx,
Now their broken vows haunt her every passing day
Tragic, he left with an obol in his palm
He could have unlocked every dungeon.
